The Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (KSTPP) of THDC India Limited achieved a major milestone on 16 February 2026 with the receipt of its 1000th coal rake at the Railway Siding Yard. The rake arrived from the project’s captive coal mine at Amelia, Madhya Pradesh. With this, a total of approximately 38 lakh tonnes of coal has been received at the plant so far.
Thermal power plants are highly coal-intensive, and regular rake movement is essential to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply, improved Plant Load Factor (PLF), and reliable power generation. The receipt of the 1000th rake represents a noteworthy accomplishment in coal supply chain management. It reflects sustained logistics coordination between the power plant and Indian Railways. Handling such a large number of rakes indicates that the plant has progressed from the commissioning and early operational phase to stable and sustained operations, with efficient performance of the railway siding, unloading infrastructure, conveyor systems, and stockyard management.
Recently, two coal rakes were procured by THDC Khurja to further strengthen coal transportation from the Amelia coal mine. Notably, the first coal rake reached KSTPP on 07 August 2024. Since then, continuous and well-coordinated rake movement has demonstrated the project’s growing operational maturity and strong inter-agency collaboration. Officials stated that this milestone is the result of systematic planning, synchronized mine dispatch, efficient rail logistics, and streamlined on-site handling systems. The achievement reinforces the plant’s readiness to meet generation targets and contribute to grid stability in the region. The role of field engineers, operations teams, mine authorities, and railway officials has been crucial in maintaining consistent rake movement and ensuring long-term fuel security.
Shri Kumar Sharad, ED (Projects), congratulated the KSTPP team on this accomplishment. Shri B.K. Sahoo, CGM (Project), conveyed special thanks to the railway officials of Danwar Railway Station and NCR Prayagraj for their continuous support and cooperation. The event was attended by Sh. B. K. Sahoo, CGM (Project), Sh. Sandeep Bhatnagar, GM (F&A); Sh. Rakesh Ratan Pathak, DGM (RS) ;  Shri R.S. Pandey, DGM ;  Shri Dileep Dwivedi, DGM; Sh. Ramesh Chandra, DGM; Sh. Vijay Bisht, DGM  and other senior officials of KSTPP and RITES.
