Rishikesh, 28-01-2026: THDC India Limited, a premier power sector entity is hosting the 31st Inter CPSU Chess Tournament under the aegis of the Power Sports Control Board (PSCB), Ministry of Power, Government of India, from 28th January to 31st January, 2026. The inaugural ceremony of the tournament was held today at the Corporate Office of THDC India Limited, Rishikesh.
Sh. Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited, emphasized that sports events organized under the aegis of PSCB play a vital role in promoting physical well-being, mental discipline, strategic thinking, and a culture of healthy competition among employees of Power Sector PSUs. Sh. Garg further stated that THDC India Limited remains committed to encouraging sports and wellness initiatives that contribute to holistic employee development and inter-organizational bonding within the power sector.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Sh. Kumar Sharad, Executive Director (Projects), THDC India Limited, who hoisted the PSCB flag, marking the official commencement of the championship. The inaugural ceremony included a march past by participating teams, oath-taking by players, and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing unity, integrity, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
Extending his best wishes to all participants, Sh. Kumar Sharad expressed confidence that the tournament would provide a competitive yet cordial platform for players and highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork, and sportsman spirit in both sports and professional life.
The players representing various Power Sector PSUs were warmly welcomed by Dr. A. N. Tripathy, Chief General Manager (HR – Admin. & CC), THDC India Limited.
The inaugural function was further enriched by cultural programs, adding grace and vibrancy to the occasion.
The tournament features men’s and women’s teams from 11 organizations, namely Ministry of Power (MoP), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), BBMB, DVC, Grid India, NHPC, PFC, PowerGrid, REC, SJVNL, and THDC India Limited. Matches are being conducted under the supervision of three qualified arbitrators/coaches, ensuring fair play and adherence to established rules.
