Chamoli, Uttarakhand, January 24, 2025 – The Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) has started another important Hydro Mechanical work of the project by commencement of Stainless Steel (SS) Liner erection work at Silt Flushing Tunnel (SFT) of the 444 MW VPHEP Project.
Marking this pivotal milestone, the work began on January 24, 2025, following a ceremonial puja in presence of Sh. Ajay Verma,Head of the Project (HoP), along with other senior officials including Sh. J.S. Bisht (General Manager, Mechanical, Social & Environmental), Sh. K.P. Singh (General Manager, TBM), Sh. P.S. Rawat (AGM In-charge PH), Sh. R.P. Mishra (AGM In-charge Dam), Sh. B.S. Pundir (AGM, Planning & Safety), Sh. A.K. Shrivastava (AGM, F&A) and Sh. R.S. Makhloga (DGM, Hydro Mechanical).
The Stainless-Steel liners in the three Branch Flushing Tunnels (BFTs) shall serve as a critical component in facilitating flushing out of the silt accumulated in the three numbers of Desilting Chambers of size 390m (L)× 16m (W) × 21.25m (H) each. These components, designed to withstand abrasion & corrosion against silt in the water of Alaknanda River.
The liners are being installed from the downstream face of the Desilting Chamber (Elevation 1223.08m) up to 2.5 meters downstream of the SFT Gate shafts (Elevation 1222.9m). A total of 127 liners will be installed, distributed as follows: BFT-1 (41 Nos), BFT-2 (41 Nos), and BFT-3 (45 Nos). Fabrication and erection activities for all three tunnels shall be done simultaneously.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Ajay Verma lauded the unwavering dedication and efforts of the Hydro Mechanical Team. He emphasized the significance of commencement of erection activities of the HM works at the VPHEP project.
