On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) of THDC India Limited (THDCIL) organized a series of environmental awareness activities including an Environment Protection Pledge, Plantation Drive, and Distribution of Jute Bags to promote environmental consciousness and encourage collective action for the conservation, protection, and promotion of a clean and healthy environment.
The programme was organized at the VPHEP premises with enthusiastic participation from officers, employees, CISF personnel, contractual workers, and members of the local community. The initiative reflected THDCIL's continued commitment towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
Sh. Ajay Verma, Executive Director (VPHEP), administered the Environment Protection Pledge, wherein participants reaffirmed their commitment to preserving natural resources, reducing pollution, promoting sustainable practices, and contributing towards a greener future. He also inaugurated the plantation drive by planting saplings and distributed eco-friendly jute bags among employees and stakeholders to encourage the reduction of single-use plastic and adoption of environmentally responsible alternatives.
Addressing the gathering, Sh. Ajay Verma, Executive Director (VPHEP) said that environmental conservation is not merely a responsibility but a collective duty towards future generations. He emphasized that every individual can contribute significantly towards environmental protection through simple yet impactful actions such as tree plantation, conservation of water and energy, waste reduction, and the use of sustainable products. He further stated that hydropower projects like VPHEP represent clean and renewable sources of energy and play a crucial role in supporting India's transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future. He urged all employees and stakeholders to integrate environmentally responsible practices into their daily lives and become ambassadors of environmental protection.
As part of the plantation drive, saplings of suitable native and environmentally beneficial species were planted at designated locations within the project premises to enhance green cover and strengthen local ecological balance. The distribution of jute bags was undertaken as a symbolic and practical step to promote sustainable lifestyles and discourage the use of plastic carry bags.
On this occasion, Sh. R.P. Mishra, General Manager (Dam), Sh. R.S. Rana, General Manager (EM), Sh. H.K. Tyagi, Additional General Manager (S&E), Sh. Himangshu Chakraborty, Additional General Manager (Finance), Sh. B.S. Pundir, Additional General Manager (Planning & Safety), Sh. Sanjay Mamgain, Additional General Manager (HM/Mechanical), Sh. R.S. Panwar, DGM (CO) Sh. Sharad Chandra Bhatt, Deputy General Manager (QC), Sh. Dinesh Aswal, Dy. General Manager (TBM), Sh. Kamal Nautiyal, DGM (Vigilence), Sh. Krishna Kumar, Deputy General Manager (E&C), Sh. V.D. Bhatt, Senior Manager (HR&A), along with other officers and employees of the project, were also present.
Through such initiatives, THDCIL continues to reaffirm its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible development in harmony with nature.
