Chamoli, Uttarakhand | September 5, 2025: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has achieved a major construction milestone at the 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) with the commencement of Overt Concrete Lining of the Draft Tube in Unit-01 at the Power House area. The concreting work is being executed with the help of a high-capacity Gantry Crane installed inside the cavern.
Earlier, erection of the steel liners of the Draft Tube and concreting around the same had already been successfully completed. With this, the project has now advanced to the stage of Overt Concrete Lining of the balance 100-metre length of the Draft Tube, a critical activity that started today.
This stage of concreting is essential for ensuring structural stability, water-tightness, and durability of the Draft Tube, which plays a vital role in channeling water smoothly from the turbine runner to the tailrace. Completion of this work will pave the way for further hydro-mechanical works and installation of turbine components in Unit-01.
Speaking on this achievement, Sh. Ajay Verma, Head of Project (VPHEP), congratulated the entire project team, contractors, and stakeholders for their relentless efforts in achieving this crucial milestone. He emphasized that the commencement of Overt Concrete Lining marks a significant step forward in the project’s execution. “This work is of paramount importance as it directly impacts the long-term efficiency and safety of the power house. The successful completion of this stage will accelerate the progress of electro-mechanical installations and bring us closer to commissioning the unit. I commend the dedication and teamwork displayed by everyone involved,” he said.
