On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project of THDC India Limited (THDCIL) organized a plantation drive at the Alaknandapuram premises of the project site. The initiative reflects THDCIL’s strong commitment towards environmental sustainability and ecological balance in the Himalayan region.
The plantation drive was formally inaugurated by Sh. Ajay Verma, Chief General Manager and Head of Project (VPHEP), and Sh. K.P. Singh, General Manager (S\&E/TBM), by planting tree saplings at the project campus. Officers and employees of VPHEP also actively participated in the event and pledged to contribute towards a greener future.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Ajay Verma said, “Our project operates amidst the fragile ecology of the Himalayas. It is our responsibility to ensure sustainable development that respects and nurtures the environment. THDCIL has embedded environmental care in its operational ethos, and this plantation drive is a step forward in that direction."
Sh. K.P. Singh added, "Every sapling we plant today is a commitment to future generations. Along with tree plantations, VPHEP is implementing various initiatives such as fish ranching in the Alaknanda River, environmental awareness campaigns through street plays, workshops, and installation of eco-awareness signages across the project-affected areas."
On this occasion, Sh. P.S. Rawat (AGM I/c Power House), Sh. B.S. Pundir (AGM, Planning and Safety), Sh. Arun Kumar (AGM, E&C), Sh. A.K. Shrivastava (AGM, F&A), Sh. V.D. Bhatt (Sr. Manager I/c HR&A) and Sh. R.S. Panwar (DGM, CO) were also present at the event and planted tree samplings.
The event concluded with a collective resolve by the team to intensify their efforts towards environmental conservation and climate resilience in the Himalayan region.
