The concrete placement at Central Overflow Block 3 of the Main Dam structure of the Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) commenced on October 22, 2024, from the deepest foundation level of EL 1198.50 meters. This marks a significant advancement in the construction of this critical Dam work on the Alaknanda River, Uttarakhand, and reflects THDC’s steadfast commitment to its progress.
This phase follows the successful start of concreting work for Block 1 on January 18, 2024, and Block 5 on June 2, 2024. With the foundation now being laid for Overflow Block 3, the project continues to move steadily towards completion, ensuring the stability and durability of the dam, a crucial element for managing water flow effectively for power generation.
The concreting was carried out in the presence of senior project officials, including Head of the Project and Chief General Manager, Sh. Ajay Verma, along with Sh. J.S. Bisht (GM, Mechanical), Sh. K.P. Singh (GM, TBM), Sh. P.S. Rawat (I/c Power House); Sh. R.P. Mishra (AGM, I/c Dam), Sh. A.K. Shrivastava (AGM, F&A), Sh. B.S. Pundir (AGM, Planning), Sh. V.D. Bhatt (Sr. Manager, HR&A), Sh. The VPHEP is a pivotal initiative in India's drive towards sustainable development. By harnessing the natural power of the Alaknanda River, the project will contribute to meeting the country’s energy needs through clean, renewable hydropower, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and significantly lower carbon emissions, supporting India’s renewable energy goals. Furthermore, the project is playing a critical role in fostering local economic development, creating employment opportunities, and providing a boost to the surrounding communities.
