THDC India Limited (THDCIL) warmly welcomed students from class 10th and 12th of Atal Utkrishth Govt. Inter College, Gadora, for an educational tour at its ambitious 444 MW under-construction Run of the river, Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP). The tour organized by PR Department (HR&A) of VPHEP lasted for two days, starting on the 17th and ending on the 20th of May, 2024.
The Chief General Manager and Head of the Project, Sh. Ajay Verma, greeted the students at the project headquarters. Stressing the importance of interaction, he encouraged them to freely engage with executives during presentations and site visits.
Throughout the tour, students had the opportunity to interact with key personnel including Sh. V.D. Bhatt (Sr. Manager, HR&A), Sh. Akhand Pratap Singh (Assitt. Manager, CO), Sh. Raju Maurya (Assitt. Manager, TBM), Sh. Avinash Kumar (ET, Public Relations), and Ms. Abhijita Sahu (Officer, Social Work). Through presentations, lectures, and videos, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the organization's activities.
Sh. Akhand Pratap Singh explained the workings of Hydro Electric Projects, highlighting the differences between run-of-the-river projects like VPHEP and reservoir-based ones.
Sh. Avinash Kumar coordinated the tour, providing students with insights into THDCIL's history, mission, vision, and its unwavering commitment to national development and the upliftment of affected regions. Ms. Abhijita Sahu (Social Work Officer, FTB) discussed VPHEP’s social and environmental commitments to the region and emphasized the importance of cleanliness.
Prioritizing safety, Sh. P.N. Mamgain (Dy. Manager, Safety) and Pankaj Bhatt (Safety officer) conducted a thorough safety briefing, ensuring students were equipped with proper safety gear before venturing into the TBM and surge shaft site area. Sh. Raju Maurya provided a detailed explanation of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) components and functions, guiding students through project sites and addressing their inquiries with expertise.
The industrial tour proved to be a valuable experience for the students, offering them practical insights into the world of hydroelectricity and infrastructure development. THDCIL extends its gratitude to Atal Utkrishth Govt. Inter College for their participation and looks forward to fostering more such educational initiatives in the future.
