Rishikesh, 30 November, 2025:  International Kayaking and Canoeing Competition, President Cup and the 4th Edition of the Tehri Water Sports Cup 2025 hosted by THDC India Limited concluded today at the Tehri Dam Reservoir, Tehri Garhwal. The grand closing ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, as the Chief Guest who was warmly welcomed by Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited.
The closing ceremony of this 03-day International event (28th-30th November, 2025) was held in the presence of Shri Subodh Uniyal, Hon’ble Forest, Bhasha, Election and Technical Education  Minister, Govt. of Uttarakhand; Ms. Ishita Sajwan, Hon’ble President, Zila Panchayat (Tehri); Shri Kishore Upadhyay, Hon’ble MLA Tehri, Shri Shakti Lal Shah Hon’ble MLA Ghansali; Shri Vikram Singh Negi, Hon’ble MLA Pratap Nagar;  Shri Vinod Kandari, Hon’ble MLA Devprayag; Shri Uday Singh Rawat, District President (BJP) Uttarakhand; Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, CMD, THDCIL; Shri. L. P. Joshi, CTO, THDCIL; Shri Mohan Singh Rawat, President, Nagar Palika Parishad; Shri M. K. Singh, CGM (Tehri Complex); Dr. D. K. Singh, Secretary General UOA, and Shri Prashant Kushwaha; President Asian Kayaking Canoeing Association.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Chief Minister lauded THDC India Limited for successfully hosting this sporting spectacle for the fourth consecutive year. With participation from athletes representing 22 countries, the event showcased Uttarakhand’s emergence as a global venue for elite water sports. He commended the medallists and all participating teams for their exceptional performances, acknowledging the skill, discipline, and sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition.
Hon’ble CM also noted that Tehri Lake is not only a vital source of power generation but has also emerged as a rapidly expanding centre for tourism, adventure sports, and regional economic growth. He encouraged young athletes to persist in their pursuit of excellence and assured them of steadfast support from both the Central and State Governments. He also paid tribute to former CMD, THDCIL, Late Shri R. K. Vishnoi, honouring his contributions and expressing deep sorrow at his untimely demise.
Shri Subodh Uniyal, Hon’ble Forest, Bhasha, Election and Technical Education Minister, Govt. of Uttarakhand;  conveyed his heartfelt appreciation on organizing this international event and stated that this championship reflects Uttarakhand’s immense potential to emerge as a global hub for adventure and water sports.
Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, THDCIL, expressed profound gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his steadfast guidance and for honouring the occasion with his esteemed presence. He also apprised Hon’ble CM and esteemed gathering about various initiatives and efforts undertaken by THDCIL for overall Socio-Economic development of the region.
Sh. Garg affirmed that the consistent support of the State Government remains pivotal in enabling THDCIL to host world-class sporting events of this scale. He added that THDCIL is actively working to advance the vision of the Government of Uttarakhand to establish the State as a premier global sports hub, with the High-Performance Academy at Koteshwar standing as a testament to this commitment by offering world-class training and facilities to emerging athletes.
Sh. Kishore Upadhyay Hon’ble MLA Tehri, highlighted that initiatives like the Tehri Water Sports Cup play a vital role in promoting sports culture, encouraging youth participation, and boosting tourism, thereby contributing to the overall development of the State.
Over the course of the championship, athletes, coaches, and officials from 22 countries, various states across India, and services teams participated in 126 races across 44 Kayaking and Canoeing categories, making the event a powerful platform for showcasing skill, competitiveness, and true sportsmanship.
