In its continued commitment to knowledge-sharing and capacity-building, the Public Relations Department of THDC India Limited’s Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP), Pipalkoti, successfully organized a one-day industrial and educational visit for 54 final-year diploma students from the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical streams of Narendra Singh Bhandari Government Polytechnic College on 04.04.2025.
The visit was a well-curated exposure program aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application in the field of hydroelectric power generation. Students were given an opportunity to interact with project officials, explore on-site technical components, and understand the socio-environmental framework that supports a mega infrastructure like VPHEP.
Sh. Ajay Verma, Head of Project, VPHEP, inaugurated the session and welcomed the young visitors. He was joined by Sh. K.P. Singh, General Manager (TBM), in motivating the students to delve deep into understanding various dimensions of hydropower project implementation. “This is not just a site visit,” Sh. Verma remarked, “It is an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with large-scale national development. Ask questions, observe closely, and carry this experience into your future careers.”
The students participated in interactive technical sessions conducted by key project personnel who brought multi-disciplinary expertise to the table. These included Sh. Raju Maurya (Deputy Manager, TBM), Sh. Akhand Pratap Singh (Deputy Manager, CO), Sh. Gaurav Bhatt (Deputy Manager, Power House), Sh. Avinash Kumar (Assistant Manager, PR), Sh. Pankaj Diwakar (Assistant Manager, TBM), Sh. Md. Mussa (Field Officer, G&G), Ms. Abhijita Sahu (Field Officer, Social), and Sh. Dhiraj Adhikari (Field Officer, Environment).
Through presentations, videos, and site visits, students explored the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) operation, power house layout, geological investigations, environmental compliance, and social outreach strategies associated with the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project. The sessions not only enriched their understanding but also inspired them to see the scope of technical expertise required in national infrastructure projects.
Ensuring the safety of all participants, the Safety Department of VPHEP took extensive measures, while the Planning and IT departments played a significant role in logistical support, helping make the event a seamless success.
Such initiatives serve dual purposes—they sensitize young technocrats to real-world engineering challenges and also foster a positive perception about hydroelectric development among future stakeholders. For a public sector enterprise like THDC India Limited, this outreach helps build trust, transparency, and interest in sustainable energy infrastructure.
The overwhelming response from the students highlighted the significance of this engagement. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared how the experience had transformed their theoretical concepts into meaningful practical knowledge.
By opening its gates to aspiring engineers, the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project continues to serve not just as a powerhouse of energy—but also as a powerhouse of inspiration and learning.
