A high-level mission from the World Bank recently visited THDC India Limited’s 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) from 21st April 2025 to 24th April 2025, a flagship initiative supported by World Bank financing, to review the progress of the project. The visit culminated appreciation for the significant advancements made across technical, environmental, and social development fronts.
The five-member World Bank delegation comprised Mr. Dzenan Malovic (Task Team Leader), Mr. Arthur Kochnakyan, Ms. Sona Thakur, Mr. Avanish Kant, and Ms. Swati Dogra. During the visit, the team held extensive meetings with VPHEP officials and conducted site inspections at key locations including the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) launch area, Power House Complex, Surge Shaft, and Dam site. The Mission acknowledged the visible transformation and effective implementation of the project over the past few years. In addition to assessing technical parameters, the delegation conducted a thorough review of the project’s social and environmental safeguards as well as the communication strategy adopted for stakeholder engagement. The team expressed overall satisfaction and commended THDC for its committed approach to holistic project development.
