The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for setting up of Floating Solar Plant was conducted at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (KSTPP) on 17.10.2024 by Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical). It marks a significant step towards sustainable energy production by THDC India Ltd.  This project aligns with the country’s commitment to increasing renewable energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
The installed capacity of the Floating Solar Plant shall be 11 MW. It shall consist of solar panels mounted on floating platforms, utilizing the water surface of plant reservoir. This innovative approach has minimized land use and maximized solar energy generation. The plant will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The floating design will also help in reducing water evaporation from reservoirs, thus promoting water conservation.
The Floating Solar Plant shall further enhance the plant capacity and thereby increase the opportunity for job man-hours thus contributing to the local economy and energy security.
It will lead to creation of job opportunities during the construction and operational phases. It will also contribute to the local economy and energy security.  The utilization of advanced photovoltaic technology will ensure higher efficiency and durability. This project supports India's broader renewable energy goals, aiming for 500 GW by 2030.
Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) said that the inauguration of the Floating Solar Plant at KSTPP is a landmark achievement in India’s journey towards zero emission. By harnessing solar power effectively while conserving valuable land and water resources, this project serves as a model for future energy projects. Continued investment in renewable technologies is essential for achieving a sustainable energy future.
Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the Floating Solar Plant will be done by M/S Enerture Technology Private limited. Shri Kumar Sharad, ED (Project), Shri A.K. Ghildiyal, CGM(MPS),  Shri Praveen Saxena, GM(BDC), Shri R.M. Dubey, GM (Electrical), Shri B.K. Sahoo, GM (O&M/Comm.) and other senior officials of THDCIL were also present during the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony.
