THDC India Limited has made a successful foray into other power generation sectors including thermal, after attaining a global name in Hydroelectric power generation. Although Khurja Super Thermal Power Project(2x6660 MW) is its first thermal power venture, THDC is ensuring use of Industry’s best practices in making it’s most aspiring Project. In the same series construction work of the project has reached a prime juncture with the launch of Ceiling Girder Jackup on 20th Jan 2022. THDC India Limited achieved this major Milestone in auspicious presence of Chairman & Managing Director (THDCIL) Sh. Rajeev Kumar Vishnoi and Director(Project-NTPC) Sh. Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya. Both the officials congratulated GM (KSTPP) Sh. Kumar Sharad for attaining the Milestone and conveyed best wishes to complete the project in scheduled time. Introduced in the outskirts of district Bulandshahr our KhurjaProject would be an ultra-super critical power plant designed to generate 9164 MU of energy every year. Project is being executed with advanced designs and minimal emission targetswith highly efficient Electrostatic precipitator, Flu Gas Desulphurization System and Selective Catalytic Reactor. The first unit is envisaged to be commissioned and operational by Feb 2024 and the second unit by July 2024. The Khurja coal fired power station comprises of two units of 660 MW. The Ceiling Girder Jack up for Boilers is one of the important milestones in erection of Steam Generator. It enables series of other activities before getting ready for Hydro test and Boiler Light Up.Construction work for Boiler Unitsare being done by Leading Power Boiler supplier “L&T-MHI Power Boilers Private Limited (LMB)” and M/s NTPC as consultant by using unique technique and advance technology to lift-up (approx. 2600 MT) Boiler Ceiling Girder(block in single lift with high-capacity Hydraulic jacks. Ceiling girder (CG) Jack-up is done through 16 no’s Computer Controlled strand jacks each having capacity of 325 Ton with matching heavy duty Powerpacks operated through a special cylinder control software. Complete arrangement is placed on the erection beam and is located at the top of the Structure (Tier-6) @ 84 Mtr. elevation. CG ground block assembly was commenced inside boiler cavity after completion of Tier-4 mill area erection. CG assembly & successful jack up start is the result of coordinated efforts, integrated resources planning, material handling, synchronized ways of structure erection. Conventionally, erection of CG is started only after completion tier-6 erection but comparatively preassembling of CG was started after Tier#4 column erection of Khurja STPP. The decision for CG pre-assembly inside boiler cavity in parallel to primary structure erection resulted in saving the time by almost 30-40 days. Total arrangement of sequential ground assembly & erection of Structure, pressure part & non pressure part items with hydraulic operated strand jacks is very much beneficial in terms of time saving, manpower safety & quality of work. Strategic Implementation of CG Jack UP operation helped mitigating the time lost during Covid waves by reducing the time in project critical path. With this the construction work of Boiler Unit-1 has reached its advanced stage and we are looking forward to its commissioning and operation in time. Not only this, we are making our way twice as fast in the erection work of Boiler Unit-2. Khurja Project has enormous potentiality not only for THDC India Limited but for the power supply of North India whose success will prognosticate our future.
