THDC India Limited (THDCIL) proudly announces a major milestone in the ongoing construction of its 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP). On September 6, 2024, the installation of the Draft Tube in Unit-I of the powerhouse was initiated, marking a crucial step in the project’s progress.
The event was graced by the presence of several esteemed officials, including Sh. Ajay Verma, Chief General Manager (Project); Sh. J.S. Bist, AGM-Incharge (Mechanical, S&E); Sh. K.P. Singh, AGM-Incharge (TBM); Sh. P.S. Rawat, AGM-Incharge (Powerhouse); Sh. Arun Kumar, AGM (E&M); Sh. A.K. Srivastava, AGM (Finance); Sh. Pappan Mishra, DGM (BHEL); Sh. V.D Bhatt, Sr. Manager (HR&A); Sh. Anil Nautiyal, Sr. Manager (E&M) and Sh. Hardeep Singh, Site Incharge (Shivalik Hydro Pvt.Ltd.), among other senior representatives from both THDC and BHEL.
Sh. Ajay Verma, Chief General Manager (Project), extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Electro Mechanical Department team for this significant achievement. He emphasized the critical role that the Draft Tube plays in the efficient functioning of the hydropower plant’s turbines. The Draft Tube is responsible for channeling the water that passes through the turbine blades back into the river, while maintaining pressure and enabling energy recovery. Its installation is essential to optimizing the overall performance and efficiency of the power generation process.
He further highlighted that the commencement of Draft Tube installation signifies a significant move towards the mechanical completion and eventual commissioning of Unit-I, bringing the project closer to its full operational potential.
