THDC India Ltd. signs an agreement for EPC/Turnkey Execution of Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (4X250 MW) with the consortium of power majors M/S Alstom Hydro France, Alstom Project India Ltd., and Hindustan Construction Company today. The agreement is signed by Sh. N.T. Ravindran AGM (Contract) on behalf of THDC India Ltd. and Sh. Hemant Sharma, Sales & Tendering Manger on behalf of M/S Alstom Hydro France, and Sh. Pradeep Takale , Sales & Tendering Director (Hydro) on behalf of Alstom Project India Ltd., and Sh. Premjit Singh, Head of Sales on behalf of Hindustan Construction Company in the presence of Sh. R.S.T. Sai, CMD and Board of Directors of THDCIL and other senior officials of the consortium viz. Alain SPOHR, M.D, Francois CARPENTIER VC & MD, Yves MOURLAAS, Ajay Kalra & AGK Murty and THDCIL.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 54 months time during the 12th plan. Tehri PSP comprising of four reversible turbine of 250 MW each, would involve construction of an Underground Machine Hall on the left bank of river Bhagirathi. The main feature of the project is the large variation of about 90 m between the maximum and minimum head, under which the reversible units shall operate. The operation of Tehri PSP is based on the concept of recycling of water discharged from upper reservoir to lower reservoir. The Tehri Dam reservoir shall function as the upper reservoir and Koteshwar reservoir as the lower balancing reservoir. On completion, additional generating capacity of 1000 MW peaking power, will be added to Northern Region (annual generation of 1377 million units).
